Write up by Matt Forbes, Newquay Coach”
Newquay Youth U11′s as Newquay United and Newquay Rangers were to play each other for the first time in two seasons in the Kernow League. What made it extra special as it was on our brand new 9v9 pitch at Tretherras School. The grass was cut perfect, sun was shining with brand new goals and nets already set up ready for a great game of football.
It was Kai who led the Rangers out as Captain from his MOTM performance from the last game. The game started off fast as both teams closed each other down fast looking to get the first goal. The game went from end to end with some great passing plays by both teams but it was Billy Owen B and Kai linking up well to try and get through United defence for Ben up front but couldn’t get the shot off. It was a break away from United that caught the Rangers with some great passing between the team but James in goal made a cracking save to keep the scores level.
The game started to open up a little as Callum made a great run down the wing out running everyone and put a lovely cross into the box but Ben just missed it. United found some space and caught the Rangers on the break again and this time found the net to open the scoring. It didn’t take long for United to get a second as they piled the pressure on the Rangers with their midfield controlling the game with some solid tackling and great passing.
United continued to put pressure on the Rangers but Owen H Wes and Harry stood strong in defence not letting them get through in turn got the rest of the Rangers going and they continued to battle for the ball. It was Owen B being strong won the ball in the midfield and passed to Kai who let a cracking shot off which went over the United keeper to pull one back.
This gave the Rangers more confidence and they started to play some football. The second half started as the first ended with the Rangers putting pressure on United and they were finding gaps with Cam Ben and Callum skipping past United’s defence and going close with the United keeper making some good saves. It was Owen B and Cam in midfield who won the ball and released Kia down the wing who took it passed the United defence and ran the whole half to slot it in the corner of the goal bringing the score level. Owen B Harry and Jamie in defence in the second half and stood strong to United’s attacks but it was James in goal for the Rangers that made some amazing saves to keep United from scoring.
It was a great game of football being played with both teams passing well and battling to get the ball back and a fair result ending the match 2-2. For the Rangers it was James whos amazing saves and bravery won him Man Of The Match. Thank you Mawgen for assistant coach today and to all who helped cheered coached and played for a great game of football.
