Anti-Bullying Week at Newquay Tretherras Promotes Difference and Equality for Everyone.

Anti-Bullying Week 2017 at Newquay Tretherras saw students and staff involved in a host of awareness-raising activities, competitions, workshops and assemblies.

This year’s theme of ‘All Different, All Equal’ aimed to get the whole school to take action against bullying, discrimination and to create a supportive environment where diversity is respected.

During the themed week long campaign students took part in; creating an interactive board which displayed ‘Acts of Kindness’ messages, an anti-bullying poster competition, a message balloon display to promote difference, an anti-bullying wristband sale, a rainbow cake sale and an odd socks day to celebrate diversity.

Assemblies were themed around ‘Respect and Tolerance’, whilst Year 10 and Year 11 assemblies were delivered by the police who talked about Hate Crime. Tutor time gave students the opportunity to discuss tolerance and diversity whilst lessons held anti-bullying themed workshops.

Head of Year 10, Ms Hurley who led Anti-Bullying Week commented, “Anti-Bullying Week has helped to highlight the impact of bullying on young people in schools, communities and online. We take bullying extremely seriously, and glad to see that students have really embraced the events with so many of them writing positive messages about themselves and others. It has created a really good feel factor around the school.”

A Year 9 student commented, “It’s fantastic, this a great idea, I have really enjoyed it!”

Even the school therapy dog, Mari, got involved in wearing a rainbow coat. The Newquay Tretherras Samba Band finished the week off by playing at lunchtime.
