On Thursday 12th February, GCSE PE students from Newquay Tretherras travelled to the University of Bath, one of the country’s foremost sporting institutions, to see for themselves some of the fantastic opportunities that are available in sport within Higher Education.
Throughout the day students were involved in a variety of activities, including a tour of the superb facilities and a practical ‘speed for sport’ session with the Team Bath staff.
Students also took part in a question and answer session with former student and University Ambassador, Megan Fletcher, the current Commonwealth Gold medallist in Judo. Megan gave a fascinating talk about her life as a student and combining her studies with life as an elite athlete.
The final part of the day involved time in the state of the art sports science laboratory where students tested fitness levels using the same procedures as the university’s elite athletes.
Jasmin Arthur who went on the trip commented, “What an absolutely fantastic day. This trip has helped me to see what possibilities there are with hard work and determination”.
The trip was part of NTSports Trips and Visits programme which aims to support students in their learning and offer them opportunities to experience Sport at elite level.
