Newquay Tretherras Christmas Carol Concert Spreads Christmas Joy To All
Putting everyone in the festive mood, the Newquay Tretherras Christmas Carol Concert celebrated the end of the winter term 2016.
The concert held on Wednesday 14th of December involved over 150 students and staff in a musical concert that impressed the audience with its incredible range of talent.
With only standing room available, the evening opened with a candle light performance by Joseph Millington who sang the Christmas Carol ‘Once In Royal David’s City’. The audience made up of parents, governors and members of the PTA, who were VIP guests, all stood and joined in.
The concert, exquisitely arranged by the Newquay Tretherras Music department showcased a variety of musicality that included staff and student ensembles, a vocal solo, choirs and a special Year 7 Drama performance piece by The Cornish Crew Christmas Carollers.
The All Star Percussion group performed festive versions of ‘Calypso Bells’ and ‘Oh When the Saints’. Jazmine Norfolk gave a delightful rendition of ‘Have yourself a Merry little Christmas’, that was followed by a violin duet from Zeta Denfield and Anna Madge, two German exchanges students who played traditional German Christmas tunes.
Performances followed by the Senior Choir, The Guitar group who played ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’, The Sax Ensemble with ‘Where is the Love’ and ‘Jingle Bells’, Vocal 7 – the Year 7 Choir who sang ‘Love is Christmas’, Newquay Strings and the always impressive Jazz Band.
The Senior and Sixth Form Choir took to the stage to add extra festive bounce with ‘Ding Dong Merrily on High’ and then joined by the remaining choirs to form a massive whole school choir which sang a cover of the Fleet Foxes, ‘White Winter Hymnal’.
Mrs Fairbairn, Headteacher at Newquay Tretherras closed the concert by thanking all who work to make the concert a fantastic celebration of the Christmas Spirit.
Mrs Fairbairn commented, ‘The word joy is often associated with Christmas and tonight the Newquay Tretherras Concert has certainly spread a lot of joy amongst us all here tonight. May I wish everyone a very, very, very, very Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year when it comes’.
