At the end of April, the Newquay Tretherras Young Enterprise team, Cornish Creations, attended the YE Cornwall Innovation Awards to showcase the products they’ve carefully designed, manufacturer and packaged across the academic year.
The awards consisted of presentations to a judging team, interviews at their trade stand, along with a large amount of networking with local business entrepreneurs.
The students showcased their eco-friendly soy candle range, which offers a wide array of interesting scents – from Bubble-gum to Strawberries & Champagne.
The feedback from everybody was positive, with the range of varied scents being the centre of many conversations. After a long day, the students came away with a sponsor’s Busy Bee award, along with a high commendation for their company finances.
Mr Anthony Lawrence, Teacher at Tretherras and the team’s mentor said, “The students have worked incredibly hard this year and I’m exceptionally proud of them! Despite not winning the top prizes, the amount their confidence and business skills have grown is a reward in itself and they should be pleased with the progress they’ve made and their achievements this year”
Year 10 student, Luke Ball commented, “We hope to continue our candle making business in the future – beyond our GCSEs – and who knows, we might even start to use our candle scents as massage oils too!”
