Tretherras has a strong tradition of keeping in touch with our students after they leave and move on to new adventures. Lots Holloway, is just one example. She is now a London-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who has released her debut single, ‘World’s On Fire’, available on “Why I? Records” via “Absolute”. It is a melodic, meaningful pop tune that examines the various issues that are faced by her generation.
Explaining the origin of the song, Lots said: “I was inspired to write the song last summer (2016). There was a moment last year when it felt like the world we knew was crumbling around us; there were so many things that happened that were difficult to swallow or rationalise. The Orlando shooting, the Brussels bombing, the Bastille Day attack, Brexit, the US presidential battle, and the endless list of tragic events in the Middle East. It’s not really a protest song, nor is it a call to arms, it’s just the way I was perceiving the world at that time.”
Lots had a strong history of regular participation in NT music concerts and other performance events while she was a student, such as taking the lead role of Scarecrow in the 2010 production of “The Wiz”, a Motown inspired update of “The Wizard of Oz”, where she was able to showcase her soulful vocals. Grahaeme Jones, who directed her in “The Wiz”, explained: “There was never any doubt at Tretherras that Lots would go on to a career in music following her memorable performance in our production of “The Wiz” and the many other musical performances where she was an integral performer. It has been a pleasure to see her music career flourish since leaving NT.”
People who may not instantly be aware of the name Lots Holloway may recognise her face from previous public success. She was part of the immensely popular duo MK1, who featured in the 2012 series of X Factor, which made stars of the likes of James Arthur, Ella Henderson and Rylan Clarke-Neal.
The video of “World’s On Fire” features some strong images that relate to the message of the song. The song, along with B-side “Is Anything Real Anymore?”, can be streamed via Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play and other streaming services or can be purchased via digital download.
