FROM PLASTIC BOTTLES TO ECO CHIC

Eco chic blazers, the latest in environmentally friendly fashion, are set to be worn by students at Newquay Tretherras from this September.

The new year 7 students will be the first year group to wear the eco trendy blazers. The implementation and adoption of the new uniform was driven forward by student voice and the work of the students on the School Forum. Other year groups will have the option to wear the blazer as part of their uniform.

Having had their proposal accepted by Tretherras’ Governing body the students voted on their choice of emblem. Although very close the traditional Tretherras emblem encompassing the school motto ‘Proba Tene’ (hold fast to that which is good) narrowly won over the widely recognised modern NT logo.

The Eco blazers are made from a quality Polyester twill fabric, made from recycled plastic bottles. An Octalobal yarn is added to give the fabric a matt finish and a really smart appearance.

Karriad Shawcross, of the Tretherras School Forum, said: “We are excited that the Governors agreed to adopt the new blazer. All students were consulted about the new uniform and embraced the opportunity to support the school’s work on sustainability and do their bit to help the planet at the same time. The blazers are really smart and very comfortable.”

Mrs Sue Martin Headteacher at the Academy commented, “Tretherras has always tried to promote looking after the environment and ensure that young people care about the environment in which they live.

“The student body is very excited about the new look this gives to Tretherras and believes it is a real statement about their readiness to learn.”

The blazers are available from Stud sports in Newquay.
