Ten lucky Newquay Tretherras Year 10 catering students recently had the unique opportunity to take part in a ‘Have A Go’ hospitality day in Padstow.
The day, organised by the Education Business Partnership, gave students the opportunity to learn about the range of careers available in the hospitality and catering sectors, whilst picking up skills related to these jobs.
The group started off in St Petroc’s Bistro where they became bar staff and tried their hand at ‘mocktail’ making, later participating in a customer service session looking at the qualities of good hospitality.
Following this, the group were taught how to match the exceptionally high standards expected by the hotel’s housekeeping staff before heading to the Seafood Restaurant to learn how to fillet a fish.
Mrs Debbie Maunder, Catering Teacher at Tretherras said, “The students had a fabulous day learning about the many job opportunities available to them as well as picking up valuable abilities.”
She continued. “We would like to thank all of the staff and companies which supported this extremely interesting and fun day, and we hope to participate in future events with the team.”
