John Muir Award

The John Muir Award is an environmental award scheme focused on wild places. It encourages awareness and responsibility for the natural environment, in a spirit of fun, adventure and exploration.

All those participating in the programme will receive a certificate and those that go onto the John Muir Award will need to show that they have Discovered a place, Explored it, Conserved it and then Share their experiences.

Students have the opportunity to learn some wilderness Bushcraft skills and discuss local environmental issues. The most enthusiastic can then go on to complete a project proposal for the Award and will have the opportunity to spend a night out in the woods putting some of their skills to the test. We want to impart a real appreciation for the wild places we are fortunate to have on our doorstep. This scheme provides an excellent framework for doing that, by getting the students out there, and enjoying the freedom and sense of wonder nature can provide.
