Beaming smiles and excited laughter filled Newquay Tretherras on Friday 4th September 2015 as 280 new Year 7 students started their first day of secondary school life.
The new cohort began the term early, in order to familiarise themselves with their surroundings before the whole school returned.
Their day started in form groups followed by an assembly, where students were introduced to Miss J McGlynn, Senior Assistant Headteacher and their new Head of Year Mr Jonathan Preece.
Mr Preece warmly welcomed all the students and encouraged them to enjoy all the opportunities that will present themselves to students during their journey at the academy.
‘It was great to welcome in so many excited students who were desperate to start their journey at Tretherras. They were a great credit to themselves and I am sure this they will go on to achieve great things in their time with us’.
Year 11 ‘Buddies’ accompanied the Year 7’s around the school on their first day and took them to have their photos taken, set up their cashless catering accounts for the school’s lunch payment system and signed up for clubs and activities at the student fair. The Buddies also assisted in the Year 7’s first lessons, getting their first year at Tretherras off to a successful start.
Students Sam Wylie and Sam Hawkey, formally from Newquay Junior Academy commented, ‘It’s been a really great day. We’ve enjoyed it all, especially DT, Geography and Science. We’re really looking forward to Monday when we will do more!’
