This is an exciting time for the school as it is stimulating ‘healthy competition’ throughout the school with the aim of raising achievement of all its students. We want to build an ethos in the school where all students support and help one another. It will develop students spiritually, morally, socially and culturally and ensure that they become individuals who, not only achieve their potential while at Tretherras, but develop the knowledge, understanding and life skills to become valuable citizens of their local and global communities.
The Student Council voted on Cornish Lighthouses as House names- resulting in Houses named Godrevy, Longships, Wolf Rock, Pendeen and Lizard. The Heads of House will develop a House identity and continue to build the whole- school ethos. All staff as well as students will be attached to a House.
Competitions will run throughout the academic year in the form of Inter-House sport competitions, debating, academic, musical, quizzes, chess and we will also have House charity days.
The Houses will encourage pupils to develop early leadership skills and undertake responsibilities that contribute to the success of their House.
Ms Jane Hurley who has lead the co-ordination of the new house system at Tretherras commented, ‘This is a great opportunity for students to take ownership and really get involved in developing an ethos for the school. We can all remember when we were in Houses at school and it is something that continues with you throughout life. I am really excited about this new venture and there seems to be a buzz around the school’
