The annual NT’s Got Talent show, set the stage alight with a fantastic range of acts on 22nd March.
Entirely arrange by Newquay Tretherras Year 10 students, the evening aimed to support the fundraising by their Deputy Head of Year, Ms Carley Barber, who will be running the London Marathon in April for Papyrus and The Terrence Higgins Trust.
13 acts made it through gruelling auditions to get to the ‘live show’ and win points for their respective house teams. Performances in the super talented student line up included vocal soloists, duets, gymnastic routines, a stand-up comedy act, a dance troop, a rock band and even a drum soloist performance!
Head of Year Mr Carter, who hosted the evening commented, “We’re incredibly proud of the determination and courage the student demonstrated to get through the auditions and perform in front of a live audience. The range of talent was phenomenal and thoroughly enjoyed by all.”
The acts faced the scrutiny of the Heads of Houses judges, Mr Ellery (Longships), Mr Bartaby (Wolf Rock), Ms Coombes (Lizard), Mr Bettle (Pendeen) and Mr Thompson (Godrevy) all of which championed all the acts and deliberated for some time before announcing the winners.
This year’s winners; in joint 3rd place was vocalist duo Daisy Dewey and Charlotte Barrick, in 2nd place were the rock band The Black Crystals and in 1st place, winner of NT’s Got Talent 2017, performing a vocal redition of ‘Lost Boy’ was Aeryn Cooke.
Ms Barber, teacher of SMSC at Newquay Tretherras added, ‘The acts were fantastic and any one of them could have won, it was an extremely tough decision for the judges! All of the Newquay Tretherras students that auditioned were brilliant. Thanks to everyone who took the time to come along to support the event.’
On the night, the event raised £788, which helped push Ms Barber well over her fundraising target.
Our congratulations go out to all that took part and we wish Ms Barber all the best in the London Marathon.
