On Monday 6th October Tretherras played host to the first round of the English Schools Athletics Associations Cross Country Cup.
The event saw 12 schools from around Cornwall and Devon compete on a fine autumn day at the Newquay Sports Centre. The event saw approximately 300 athletes raced.
With the course in perfect condition, classifications of Junior Boys, Junior Girls, Inter Boys and Inter Girls competed in their respective races. Newquay Tretherras sports leaders, alongside Newquay Road Runners, marshaled the course and organised competitors.
Newquay Tretherras did not disappoint with three of their teams (Junior Girls, Junior Boys and Inter Girls) qualifying for the regional round at the beginning of November, with some fantastic team and individual performances.
Winning teams were presented certificates by Paul Manning (President of the Cornwall Schools Athletic Association), Ashley Mann (Governor at Newquay Education Trust), Paul Wright (President of Newquay Road Runners) and Newquay Tretherras’ own Charlotte Cayton-Smith.
Newquay Tretherras will also host the National Final on Saturday 29th November of which they are immensely proud. This is the second time the school have hosted the prestigious event, following the success of 2009.
John Scott, Athletics Development Officer at Tretherras said; “I am incredibly proud of the performance of our athletes and leaders today. We look forward to welcoming the best schools from around the Country on the 29th November and would encourage members of the local community to come along and watch what will be a fantastic sporting event”.
