Across Phase One students cover all areas of the Design Technology Curriculum on a carousel basis. All students cover Health, Safety and Hygiene in the workshops.

Year 7

In Food students focus on the Eatwell Guide and try to focus on making foods from the Fruit and Vegetables and Starchy Food segments to help them to understand how to achieve a balanced diet. Practical work is based around knife skills and the independent use of all parts of the cooker.

In Textiles students learn how to use the sewing machines and they design and make a Dumpy Doorstop.

In Resistant Materials students work on a small project using a range of tools and equipment in the workshop.

Year 8

In Food students look at Food Provenance, Nutrition and learn how to make some simple dishes for family meals. They design and make a Pizza as their main assessed task.

In Textiles students learn Fabric Colouring Techniques and design and make a small Fabric Container of their choice.

Students cover a Graphics project using specialist computer software.
