The catering kitchens at Newquay Tretherras saw the return of the popular Primary Schools Bake Off competition on the 21st January.
A total of 18 primary school children from the local area in pairs were asked to make, design and decorate cupcakes before the baked goods were judged to decide a winner.
After a difficult final judging process, Matilda Cornes Year 5 pupil from St Columb Minor was crowned 2016 Bake Off Champion. Ms Sarah Goswell, Deputy Associate Headteacher at Newquay Tretherras awarded Matilda the title and gifted her with a cake decorations and a recipe book.
Ms Goswell commented, ‘As Mary Berry I have had a very difficult task in choosing a winner. There have been some fantastic bakes and I can see some real baking talent amongst you all. Congratulations to Matilda who baked some delightful cupcakes’.
All pupils took a boxed selection of their bakes home.
Mrs Sam Skelton, Teacher of DT commented, ‘The competition was such a success last year that we had to run it again. This year was fierce, all students put a lot of effort in and really impressed the staff and Tretherras Year 11 students who were on hand to support.’
