Primary Workshop Involves ‘Girls in Science’

On Tuesday 13th January, Newquay Tretheras held a ‘Girls in Science’ workshop with over 50 Primary school students in an attempt to encourage more girls into the subject.

The students carried out an experiment where they had to separate salt, iron and glitter, before the lead teacher, Mrs Ellis-Davies, showed the students an explosive reaction using jelly babies.

Mrs Jenny Ellis Davies, Science teacher at Tretherras said, “All the girls had a great time and some even said they are tempted by a career in Science or Engineering which is fantastic to hear.”

The ‘Girls in Science’ workshops are part of the Primary program run at Tretherras by Primary Liaison Officer, Mr Tristan White, which sees a variety of different subject-focused sessions throughout the year.DSC_0680
