See Our School In Session

Newquay Tretherras threw open its doors to give local Year 5 students and their Parents the opportunity to experience the school’s learning environment first hand when they were invited to Tretherras’ ‘See Our School In Session’ days.

Over the course of three days, hundreds of parents and their children were given a tour of the academy, dropping in on lessons and taking part in active workshops.

Pupils were able to experience the whole range of classroom life in the different departments, from puzzle solving in Maths to experimenting with chemicals in Science.

Tristan White, Director of Transition at Tretherras and organiser of the event, said, “It is fantastic to be able to give the opportunity to younger pupils and their parents to see us going about our normal working day. It is important that people experience what learning is like at Tretherras, as the big decision about which secondary school to attend needs to be made over the coming months. The feedback from the sessions has been amazing, with parents praising the staff, facilities and opportunities open to their children at Tretherras. An often heard comment was “how much school had changed since my day” and “can I come back?”"

‘See Our School In Session’ is one of a series of events put on by Tretherras to provide information to parents about moving to secondary school. The next opportunity will be on September 18th at the Open Evening and the 19th at the Open Morning. These will be followed by the ever-popular ‘Youth University’ Saturday schools.
