Newquay Tretherras student, Katie Robinson has again been selected to represent England U15′s once again.and flies to Belgium to represent her Country on 11th April….
As part of their Work Skills studies, students from the Newquay Tretherras Sixth Form on the One Year Traineeship programme recently held a bake sale in aid of the Newquay Food Bank.
The idea came from one of their units of work where students are required to plan and run an enterprise activity. The “One Year” sixth form students seized the opportunity to progress in their studies whilst at the same time, raising money for an excellent cause.
Working as a team, the students took responsibility for sourcing appropriate ingredients before using the schools catering facilities to prepare their cakes and cookies. Eventually, after break time and lunchtime sales, accosting students and staff alike, the group successfully raised over £50 in total.
Lead Teacher of Applied Learning and Business Studies Mr D Nicholls commented, “I think it’s fantastic that the students have used this opportunity to not only complete their portfolio work but also to raise funds for a really worthwhile cause here in town – they should all be really pleased with their efforts and proud of what they’ve done. The One Year Traineeship programme is one of the many great opportunities available at Newquay Tretherras Sixth Form”.
This bake sale was the first of several events due to be run by the students on the Sixth Form’s Traineeship programme, a course which offers students an insight into the world of work along with valuable work experience, whilst offering them the opportunity to continue their education at a Post 16 Level.
