Three teams from Newquay Tretherras entered into the Schools Show Jumping competition run by the Western Hunt Pony Club at Resparveth on Sunday 23rd February 2014. For extra inspiration the teams created their own team names: Tally Ho Tretherras, Tretherras Torpedoes and Tretherras Tigers.
Both team horses and riders turned out beautifully with their school show jumping jackets, part funded by the Tretherras PTA. The Tretherras Torpedoes were awarded 6th place for their tack and turnout.
Tally Ho Tretherras entered the open competition but unfortunately, due to lost transport and horse shoes, only 2 team members were able to compete; Jasmine Arthur riding Lady Jane and Sinead Martin riding Rory. Both competed for individual places and Sinead Martin on Rory was 4th overall. Jasmine was unlucky knocking the last fence in the second round.
In the novice section both the Tretherras Tigers and Tretherras Torpedoes competed in a class consisting of 15 school teams. The Tretherras Torpedoes, on their debut, rose to the challenge and were one of only two teams who had ridden to achieve a score of zero. This put the team into 2nd place overall.
The Tretherras Tigers attended their second ever competition representing the school. The team performed amazingly well and the improvement since the last competition in October was very noticeable.
Miss Ellis who runs the Equestrian Club at the school commented, “The Tretherras teams looked amazing and performed with great spirit. Well done to everyone for taking part, being well turned out on a cold wintry day and still smiling. Huge thanks go out to all the parents who help supporting and getting students to and from these special events.”
