On Monday 16th June, Newquay Tretherras’ Young Enterprise Team headed to Swindon Steam Museum for the Regional Final of the Product Design competition.

The group, self-named Team Tidal, were the only company representing Cornwall in the heat and were up against seven other teams in the South West category.

It was a gruelling eight-hour day for the students who were interviewed by judges at their trade stand, grilled during a panel interview and then held presentations about their product.

Out of the ten awards up for grabs, the Tretherras students were awarded the Business Excellence Award by Asda who commented that their Lazy Gardener bulb box product was ‘most ready for the retail environment’.

Unfortunately, the group narrowly missed out on securing the South West Company of the Year Award and a place in the National Finals.

Mr Lawrence, teacher of Computing and Enterprise at Tretherras, said “I’m extremely proud of what the team have achieved and how their confidence, knowledge of business and entrepreneurial skills have developed. The team should be thrilled with what they’ve accomplished this year.”
