Newquay Tretherras students Jasmine Mann and Elowen Penfold were selected to take part in the Talent Inspiration Programme ran by Sport England in conjunction with the 2015 Sainsbury’s school games.
Jasmine who is in Year 10 and Elowan who is in Year 9, were nominated and then selected from students across the whole of the UK.
The girls were part of 200 young aspiring athletes and 75 team managers from across the country. They participated in a three-day residential learning experience in Manchester that started in September.
Jasmin and Elowen commented, ‘It was pretty amazing! It was a fantastic experience meeting top-level athletes and learning from them how to improve our own sports.’
The girls met with Paralympic swimmer Dan Pepper and learnt different approaches to training as well as applying them in the coaching they deliver to other students.
Elowen added, ‘I have been using the new techniques I’ve learnt and already have found improvements in how I train and play.’
Miss Mollie Leverton, teacher of P.E. at Newquay Tretherras commented, “Both Jasmine and Elowen are incredibly dedicated to their sport. This has been a fantastic experience for them and one which is truly well deserved. We are extremely proud of them.’
