This week, some of Newquay Tretherras’ Year 10 drama students performed in Treviglas’ production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, in collaboration with the Royal Shakespeare Company Schools Project.
Mr Jones, Drama and SMSC teacher at Tretherras went to view the production and wrote the following:
I went to see the Treviglas production last night and it was great to see them take on a very different interpretation compared with our production of 2012. It was bright and musical, with lots of dance sections, and a constant flow of dance music to set a very contemporary feel. It was fantastic to see a selection of students from various primary schools also involved with some cleverly choreographed dance. The highlight of the evening were the strong comic performances of the Mechanicals when they performed their “comic tragedy” of Pyramus and Thisbe towards the finale of the show.
Our students (Ieuan Jones, Adam Ludlam, Sam Coffey and May Plant) put in strong, confident performances as the royal court of Theseus that clearly matched the standard set by their peers from Treviglas. Adam presented a particularly noble Theseus whilst Ieuan provided some fine comic touches as the scheming, simmering Egeus. Once again I find myself being very proud to be associated with a school that produces such talent.
