Newquay Tretherras student Katie Robinson, who has just turned 13, has been invited by the FA (Football Association) to attend the upcoming U15 National Performance Camp.
Katie, who has been playing football for the last 6 years will be amongst the top 30 elite girls from around the Country including players from Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal, in the training camp based at University of Warwick in Coventry.
Katie was spotted at a Saturday morning football club before moving on to play and train with Cornwall FA whilst also playing boys football on a Sunday for Newquay AFC. Katie moved on again to play for Devon FA as it is a Centre of Excellence and met opposition such as Aston Villa and Chelsea, but still played for Newquay AFC
The Football Association, 2 seasons ago, decided to pilot a scheme in the South West where the elite girls from each centre within the South West were chosen to go and trial and Katie has just experienced a year of the Southwest FA camps based at Taunton.
Her call up to the National U15’s camps has been a true feat and one that Katie is enjoying tremendously. Successful in her first camp visit, Katie is now invited back to other National camp in November. Should Katie be do well once again she will be picked to play against professional academies and International matches.
Katie commented, ‘At first it was very daunting, playing against club players from Chelsea and Arsenal but now I’m looking forward to the next camp and hope to get through.’
