Literacy skills are essential for our students to be able to articulate the learning and understanding that they have gained. Therefore, in Years 7-9, students take part in skills specific literacy lessons. During these lessons, students explore a range of fiction and non-fiction texts. These lessons allow opportunities to develop a range of skills including comprehension, empathy, analysis and evaluation.
In Year 7, students follow the Accelerated Reader programme which is designed to encourage students to read and enjoy literature. Throughout the lessons, students enjoy a wide variety of books and through the scheme develop their ability to read, understand and comprehend books. Due to the increasing examination demands in Year 11, it is essential that students continue to develop this essential life skill.
