Students at Tretherras develop competence and confidence within a wide variety of sports & activities which allows them to develop an interest in life long physical activity. Our curriculum offers a broad range of sports and activities that is inclusive for all which include the following categories; invasion games, net & wall, striking & fielding, gymnastics, dance, outdoor & adventure and athletics. During their time in PE, students’ will develop their knowledge and understanding of the various sports and activities which they then apply to performing the various skills and techniques required to perform in that sport or activity and then finally begin to develop their understanding of how this impacts their health & well-being.
Our curriculum offers students the opportunity to continue traditional sports that they would have experienced within their KS2 PE curriculum but also gives them the opportunity to explore new sports and activities. Across key stage 3 students will learn key concepts and principles that link these sports and activities and will be encouraged to apply these whilst moving through years 7, 8 and 9. Sports and activities are taught in half termly blocks, where students receive 2 hours of core PE per week with a PE specialist and to foster and encourage lifelong participation with physical activity we aim to include a pathway within our extra-curricular programme for the vast majority of sports chosen in our PE curriculum.
