4.5K RUN – CHRISSIE’S SUNSHINE APPEAL -SUNDAY 5TH MAY 2019 by Paul Wright

The sun shone with smiles beaming wide and bright for Chrissie’s Sunshine Appeal 4.5K fun run on Sunday 5th May.

Organised by Newquay Road Runners (NRR) and held on the Newquay Tretherras sports field, the atmosphere was wonderful throughout and a pleasure to see so many adults and children run, jog or walk around the well laid out 3 lap course.

Des Evans, who came up with the idea for a fun run said “This was a special day for a very special lady and I’m absolutely delighted that over £1,000 was raised for the Charity Appeal, I can’t thank my NRR colleagues enough who got right behind the idea of such an event from the off, all the hard work putting this together was so worthwhile”.

Glyn Talling, NRR Chair echoed Des’s words by adding “This was teamwork in action and to work with so many other charitable organisations to ensure the event was a success was a real pleasure. Events such as this show what a wonderful community we have in and around the resort, perhaps the most rewarding aspect of the day was that Chrissie, who is an inspiration to us all, was delighted with the event, the support and concept”.

Vice Chair of NRR, and now leader of Newquay’s Pan’s People, Kelly Woodfine Beard, who with Karen Marsland & Lisa Talling led the dance warm-up said “How wonderful it was to see everyone following the instructions to music and also being able to smile and have fun many even managing to hide any lack of coordination”.

When interviewed at the end of the event Chrissie commented; “Thank you to everyone for helping spread the ‘Chrissie Sunshine’ and taking part in the 4.5km run! I’m totally overwhelmed by the love and support from everyone involved in Sunday’s wonderful event. I am blown away and still struggling to come back down to earth. One of my favourite moments was watching the huge crowd laugh & giggle and enjoying the sunshine whilst exercising to the warm-up songs, led by Kelly, Karen & Lisa, is there anything these Newquay Road Runners can’t do? The whole event just made me so happy and proud to live in such an amazing town with such an awesome community. What more can you ask for, love & laughter filling the air”.

Chrissie added, “So many organisations and individuals to thank, all the Newquay Road Runners along with Des Evans whose idea it was, he and his running colleagues put this event together in record quick time and with such finesse. FLEET for providing the first aid cover for us, Norman Trebilcock and his team are our true heroes. Newquay Tretherras for their wonderful school field which was the most perfect venue. Towan Blystra Lions for all their help supporting Chrissie’s Sunshine Appeal. Cornish Print Company, Newquay Voice newspaper and Radio Newquay and many more. Then for the sun for coming out, which Des took the credit, perfectly planned nothing could be improved upon. I honestly believe ‘Lady Luck’ was looking after us, I’m hoping this carries on and we have a wonderful summer. Keep on smiling and spreading the sunshine.”

Newquay Road Runners wish to put on record their sincere thanks to all those who played a part in making the day such a success, these include Newquay Tretherras School, Radio Newquay, Towan Blystra Lions, FLEET, Cornish Print Company, This is Newquay, Bookers, Andy Loos and last but not least Cornish Maid Catering.
