On Thursday 16 January Newquay Tretherras held its annual Careers Fayre. This year we had the luxury of using the newly built Quay Hall which meant better facilities and a much more appealing venue.
Amongst the highlights were Jodie Young’s Colour Bar & Salon who allowed students to practise their hair styling skills on a real life model and Allied Health Professionals from RCHT who were using virtual reality headsets to showcase the range of careers available in the NHS. We were also delighted to welcome Newquay Spaceport this year who provided a very interesting insight in to the space industry.
Careers Lead teacher Mrs Henry said ‘every year we have a different variety of businesses that attend and this year was no exception. We are always really grateful to those companies that give up their time to provide our young people with ideas about all the jobs out there, particularly within Cornwall. We would not be able to run the event without their support.’
Mrs Henry continued, ‘Feedback from the students who attended was really positive with lots of meaningful conversations taking place. The Year 9 students found it particularly useful as they will be starting the option process shortly and the Year 11 students appreciated the fact that they were able to talk to companies about apprenticeships and get ideas about future university courses.’
The school would like to formally thank all the companies that attended.
