Newquay Tretherras students are hoping to raise over £1000 for Cornwall Mind by holding a charity football match.
The Year 9 and 10 students chose the Cornish charity as they wanted to raise awareness, and promote understanding of mental health, amongst their peers.
Cornwall Mind endeavours to prevent those who are vulnerable from developing mental health issues. They provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem.
So far Newquay Tretherras students have raised £475 and are looking to reach their target before the match, which is set for Friday 7th February, on the new school all weather Astro pitch. Rhys Evans, in Year 10, Joe Baker, in Year 9, commented, ‘Mental Health is becoming increasingly more important, we are trying to raise greater awareness amongst young people. The match is going to be after school and we hope lots of people will come out to watch and donate to the charity’.
