The show must go on! Newquay Schools’ Annual Christmas Concert – Friday 11th Dec 7pm

It would take more than coronavirus restrictions to deter the annual Newquay Schools’ Christmas concert, which will keep its joyful celebration of Christmas and young talent – only instead of being in-person, it will be delivered digitally in 2020.

Now even more people will be able to enjoy the gifts of seven Newquay schools in the online celebration, themed ‘Love builds hope’ which will raise funds for Christian Aid’s Christmas Appeal supporting people living in poverty around the world.

Each school has contributed songs and instrumental pieces and there will be an opportunity to join in with a traditional carol at the concert which starts at 7pm on Friday 11th December and can be found on youtube at https://tinyurl.com/yytr9jw3 to watch live or later (or search “Newquay Schools’ Christmas Concert”).

A member of the concert organising committee, the Revd Peter Davy of St Colomb Minor Parish Church, Newquay, said: “In the twenty-eight years I’ve been involved with the annual Schools’ Christmas Concert for Christian Aid, we have never had a Christmas quite like this one!

“We are particularly grateful to members of staff, pupils and parents for all their help and support enabling this concert to go ahead.

“This year, perhaps more than ever, we all need the hope, the message that Christmas brings. We may not be able to meet together, but we are pleased to be able to bring the schools together for an online celebration.

“The concert supports the work of Christian Aid to bring hope in some of the world’s toughest places and we have typically raised £500-600 each year.

“Although ‘entry’ to this year’s concert is free, we welcome donations, via the JustGiving page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/christianaidnewquayschoolsconcert. Our traditions may look different in this year of social distance, yet love is never distant. Love calls us to action.

“Now is the time to reach out to our neighbours near and far to help build a hope that lasts.”

The schools taking part in the concert are: Tretherras, Treviglas, Newquay Junior, St.Colomb Minor, Bishops’ Church School, Trenance infant school and Nansledan School.
