A couple of years ago, Lead Teacher of Personal Development at Newquay Tretherras Mr Jones along with Newquay Tretherras colleague Mr Nicholls set a challenge of completing 12 walks of a minimum of 12 miles in support of mental health.
Lots of staff got involved in one or more of the twelve walks, including an attempted 24-hour walk. As a team, they managed to raise around £4,000 for two mental health charities: Movember and CALM.
This year Mr Jones, who is also a Newquay Town Councillor has set himself a solo challenge of walk 500 miles. The challenge, inspired by The Proclaimer’s song “500 Miles aims to raise money for Newquay Foodbank who do so much to support the most vulnerable families in the town.
Mr Jones explains, “It is especially important that these families are supported now, especially as increasingly more families have found themselves in unexpected financial hardship because of COVID restrictions.”
With this in mind, Mr Jones is looking for 500 wonderful people who are willing to donate to a minimum of £5.00 to support the work of Newquay Foodbank throughout this Lockdown and whatever comes after it. It is hoped that this will raise a lot of money to help a lot of people right here in Newquay.
Mr Jones added, “Please support me in this challenge. Please spread the news of what I’m trying to do on social media. Please encourage people to donate to the Just Giving page I’ve set up. Please spread the stories of how Newquay Foodbank is helping those people who are most in need of our help.”
As always Newquay Tretherras staff and students are getting involved to support Mr Jones with ‘mini’ challenges set by Mr Jones.
