Newquay Tretherras Health Month Starts Next Week!!
A new programme begins next term at Newquay Tretherras with the aim to promote positive steps and awareness for pupils, staff and parents in improving physical and mental health.
Each week has been themed and will look at a range of subjects around Mental Health and Mindfulness, Personal Health and Physical Activity.
A range of activities and workshops are on offer everyday day, tailored for different year groups that will be delivered by Tretherras staff, external health care professional agencies and community partners.
The school canteen is also supporting the month project with a daily healthy special – 80p, pre-packaged salad boxes – £1, fruit pots – £1 and healthy cakes and cookies each priced at 50p. As well as all this, they will provide free side salads on every main meal, free fresh fruit, and various free healthy food samples.
Every Wednesday, staff and parents can complete an online virtual health assessment with a practitioner. There will also be high tech ‘fancy’ scales in the Sixth Form for students to measure body fat percentages, hydration and other important health markers.
Our community partners have also put on a range of activities for families to get involved with: The Heron Centre will be providing a family tennis day; The Newquay Orchard will be running lots of free activities; Dr Lee will be delivering a talk about supporting your child’s mental health; the Physical Training Instructors from RAF St Mawgan will be running sessions at their base for Year 12 and 13 students and WAX at the Newquay Sports Centre will be providing a family circuit training session.
To start the Health Month off, Inter-house will run the first week back after half term. Students in Years 7 to 11 will spend one of their core lessons doing either football, benchball or dodgeball.
Keep up to date with sessions on offer and what the whole Newquay Tretherras community is up to during Health Month via our website and social media channels.
