Awards were presented to over 100 students who were recognised for their academic achievements and progress, as well as special recognition for students who have been inspirational.
Family and friends were welcomed into the Quay Hall before Mr Higginson, Deputy Headteacher, opened the proceedings.
Mr Higginson stated, ‘Many of you in the room tonight had demonstrated the character sets that are required to achieve success, resilience, motivation, an eagerness to learn and better yourself. Your use of those skills is the reason you have been nominated to receive an award for the Highest Academic Achievement and or Greatest Progress in a subject’.
Mr Higginson added, ‘We at Newquay Tretherras are proud of your commitment and hard work, as I’m sure your parents and carers are too. Do not underestimate the positive impact you make to your peers and younger students around you on a day-to-day basis. Congratulations to all of you on your awards this evening. We look forward to working with you in September and build upon your successful GCSE journey’.
Newly appointed Head Students, Lily Kaye and Mia Rickwood, compered the evening awards, whilst Head of Year 9, Mr D Nicholls and Head of Year 10, Mr Nicholls, presented awards and spoke of the fantastic achievements from each of their respective year groups.
Year 9 and 10 students were awarded for Best Progress, Best Achievement and Best Overall Achievement in 36 different subjects.
Mr Nicholls presented the Year 9 overall individual winners with the Year 9 Special Awards presented by former Deputy Headteacher, guest Ms Sarah Goswell.
- The winner of the Year 9 Outstanding Contribution Award went to Gabriella Ryder.
- The Year 9 Duke of Edinburgh’s Award was won by Donovan Wheeler.
- The Year 9 Endeavour Achievement & Aspiration Award was won by Ronan Prendergast.
- The Year 9 Endeavour Progress & Resilience Award was won by Cydnee Hampshaw.
- The Year 9 Inspirational Award was won by Tia Day.
- The Highest Academic Achiever in Year 9 was won by Jasmine Sherman.
Mr Sloan presented the Year 10 overall individual winners with the Year 10 Special Awards, also presented by former Deputy Headteacher, guest Ms Sarah Goswell.
- The Year 10 Outstanding Contribution award was won by Eden Hales.
- The Year 10 Inspirational Award was won by Alina Hoskins.
- The Year 10 Sports Leaders Award was won by Ethan Lusty.
- The Highest Academic Achiever in Year 10 was awarded to Daisy Mitchell.
- The Year 10 Headteacher’s Award 2022 was won by Wilf Bicknell.
Mrs Fairbairn concluded the evening by congratulating the students and encouraging them to continue their spirit for learning as they move on into their future.
Mrs Fairbairn commented, ‘You have really set your minds on what you want to do, every one of you has the potential to be a fantastic human being as an adult and I am very privileged to watch you take on that journey. Congratulations to you all.’
