Former Year 11 Newquay Tretherras students, along with their families, attended the Key Stage 4 Celebration Evening in the Quay Hall on 23rd November 2022.
Families, along with Tretherras staff, proudly watched the Class of 2022 leavers collect their GCSE certificates and prizes for outstanding achievements over their five years at the school.
Deputy Headteacher Mr Richard Higginson opened the evening’s speeches by welcoming the former Year 11 students and commenting, “It is an absolute pleasure to see so many of you here tonight to celebrate your incredible achievements. You worked extremely hard, and I hope as a result of that, whatever you are doing now, those results and certificates that you will pick up tonight have open doors for you.”
Sixth Form students Lilly Kaye and Ellie Whitehead hosted the evening’s celebration. Students were then welcomed to the stage and presented with their GCSE and vocational certificates by Head of Year Mrs Lisa Schiavo-Tench and their Well-Being Mentor Mrs Julie Cartwright.
Mrs Schiavo-Tench took a moment after the presentations to reminisce about the humorous moments and the precious memories the year group and staff all shared together during their time together at Newquay Tretherras.
Mrs Schiavo-Tench commented, “We’ve had some amazing times and laughed so much; you have come so far and achieved so much. We are privileged to have watch you grow into wonderful, beautiful, talented young people. I am so thankful to have shared this journey with you. It is wonderful to celebrate all this with you tonight.”
Executive Headteacher, Mrs Samantha Fairbairn presented the awards for Outstanding Academic Achievements.
This year the awards for Outstanding Musicians were won by Arwen Hemming and Jasmine Gordon and the Music Treble Clef Award was awarded to Dylan Gordon. All three students entertained the audience with their musical compositions during the evening.

Executive Headteacher, Mrs Samantha Fairbairn ended the evening by thanking students, parents and teaching staff for their hard work and support, congratulating them once more on their phenomenal results and impressive progress.
Mrs Fairbairn commented, “You were always a fantastic year group, and you are excellent role models for younger children. You are academic and sporting leaders, talented performers, charity fund-raisers and you have always been kind and supportive of each other’s success. You are precisely the kind of young people that are going to make a positive difference to the world, both at home here in Cornwall, on the international stage, and at all points in between. Once again, many congratulations to you all.”
