New Build Project – Letter to Parents

Dear Parents/Carers

New Build Project

We are delighted to announce that work will start on the long-awaited major rebuild of our site in May 2018. This multi-million pound re-development scheme will provide the school with a state of the art new building which has been specifically designed to suit the needs of Newquay Tretherras students and our local community.

The new block has been designed in partnership with the school and it will be located on the existing senior tennis courts. Brand new floodlit courts will be provided to the west of the site, close to Newquay Sports Centre. The building will contain twenty-four new classrooms for the Maths, English, PE and Computer Science departments. An Activity Studio for PE and dance will also be provided, as well as changing facilities, staff work rooms and offices. In addition, there will be modern catering facilities in a large hall, which at the click of a switch can be turned into a theatre to seat 300 students for assemblies and to enjoy creative arts performances.

We will also take this opportunity to make some significant improvements to the building that is being retained by refurbishing existing classrooms and providing additional facilities for science laboratories, art, and photography and media suites. The works programme aims for the new build to be completed by mid-August 2019, and we are excited that students will be able to use the facilities for the first time when they return to school in September 2019.

During construction work, the site will be fully enclosed, as the safety of the students is paramount, and building work has been scheduled so there will be no impact on the learning of our current students, especially in the run up to public examinations. The lower school, which is being fully replaced, will not be demolished until the new building has been fully finished and handed over to the school.

We are extremely excited to be starting work on this eagerly awaited build, which will bring 21st Century facilities to our students and the Newquay community.

Rest assured, you will be kept fully up to date with the project and any implications during the build phase. In the meantime if you have any queries please e-mail

Yours sincerely
